Question for Jingle Dress dancers: do you usually practice in
full regalia to get the "sound effects" of a jingle dress?

I rarely practice in full regalia.
Along with practice I also run and lift weights to stay in shape for the dance.

Its good to stay in shape in order to dance your best tho. If not you'd be huffin and puffin every time you get out there, ya kno.. but when i practice i usually just wear like some running shorts and a tshirt. As long as you practice staying on beat i don't think you would have worry bout wearing your dress to practice. I think it would be best to save it when you dance at powwows or any other place you may dance at.

Get some tapes or dvd's.
You get to practice and you can hear the jingles from the dancers that your watching.
Gives you a feel of what you should be doing to keep beat with the drum.

Of course, you can practice in your regalia if you want.
If yours is a skirt, underdress and vest, you can practice just in your skirt and a t-shirt. That way you'll get some idea of how your dress will sound.

but thats just it i havent got a dress yet but i plan to have one at least by next summer and how do i get tapes?? what do you do to practice??
and what are the drummers you listen to to get the steps down??

You can order tapes; like from Crazy Crow. Or search some out on the internet.

To practice? I pop in a DVD and dance around the living room. Or take some music outside and practice in the backyard.

I use any tapes with jingle songs on them. If you don't know what jingle songs are, most of the tapes will tell you.

I run alot to stay in shape but its been so hot here lately I haven't had the time. Since most of my dresses are skirts, ect I do practice with a few cds or my jingle tape. I like to get the beat down with the drum.

my friend from warm springs oregon sells powwow and hiphop music dvds for pretty cheap you can call him 541-325-1882 he has the hook up on all the big powwows Xcept gathing cuz they dont allow outside taping well for selling that is but hes got a gr8 selecion........i dance jingle myself and he has good ones .......get.... kyi-yo 2006.... has the "willow jack special" on it and its dope!!!
