I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on where to start. I have a design picked out for my dress, but I don't know how to go about making it. I would like to learn as much as possible about this style of dancing. I am a fancy shawl dancer, but I decided I wanted to try jingle. I dont want to insult anyone and I mean no disrespect. I have grown up in the middle of Los Angeles and don't have many resources as far as making regalia goes, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Than you for all of your help in advance.

Guess I'll go first.
I think you've noticed no one has responded to this. But since you asked for advice I'll give ya my best piece. You say you are fancy shawl but decided you would "try" jingle. I hope you have learned something by the silence here on this thread that jingle is not something you "try". It is something you should be committed to or not do it. I mean no offense towards you and don't mean to insult your ambitions but for most people in the powwow world the jingle dress is something special and there is a lot that goes into preperation to just be able to have the blessing of being able to dance this style in a good way. If your just wanting to do this as "just a dress thing" and not want to give any thought, then I would suggest looking in the sewing section of this site I found some stuff there. |

I am very sorry if I offended anyone, I did not mean to. I just didnot know how else to word the question...now I realize that I should have thought about it more. I would love the oppertunity to learn jingle. I grew up in the city and don't have very many ties to information other than on this site. I go to as many pow wows as I can, but no one seem to be interested in answereing any of my questions. My recent experience has been that people seem offended that I aask about their regalia, or for advice as a novice dancer. Again I meant no disrespect and I am sorry. Thank you for your advice.
