The question is kind of vague. I lilke watching old style when it is done the right way. Really elegant dance. As far as the outfits old style is simpler so if your asking about the glitz and show-your stuff- and look at me dance ones..
then a person would want to see the contemp ones. As for dance... I like dancing old style especially when it comes to the side step. When I do dance contemp, I still have it toned down from what the other contemp dancers do. Like I don't kick out and do all the spins.... just my way, doesn't feel right to do them.

I was taught that there is no spinning, going backward, your feet should be relatively close to the ground and to dance in a zig zag motion. I just don't get why some ladies dance like they are fancy dancers. If you are gonna kick your feet up, spin, go backwards then IMHO why not be a fancy shawl dancer?

My Daughter is Junior Jingler and she is dancing old style, but also is watching the contemp style and trying that out. I dont mind it, but I remind her to keep it 'tradish' as possible. So she does. She don't go backwards, or spins. She had an elder compliment her on her dancing as well. But yes, I agree, if you are going to get 'fancy' with it, dance Fancy Shawl.
