fancy shawl & jingle

i was told by a jingle dancer that she does both fancy shawl and jingle...i was wonderin if that was even possible?

of course.....she can always switch off from powwow to powwow.

I know a few gals that do this. Not just with jingle and fancy, but tradish as well. I don't.... I have my reasons.

I, myself, am both a jingle dancer and a fancy shawl dancer. It is really not that hard to do both because you can condition and practice for both at the same time. The hardest part sometimes is to decide which style you want to dance at which particular powwow.

Not to be confused with doing both at the same powwow, during the same song, correct? You can tell many jingle dancers also fancy or were former fancy dancers, just by the way they do jingle dancing.

i know a couple ladies that are "all-around" dancers, myself included. although i choose to dance fancy at most powwows. I know how to side step and round dance too. I also know how to make all three styles of regalia.

Yes, most dancers that have been around can tell when a dancer isnt dancing their 'original' style. I have a friend that, to me, didnt look like a jingler, but a fancy-dancer-in-a-jingle-dress. but she won a lot, so all's fair in love and powwows...

I totally agree. There are many contemporary jingle dancers in jingle dance dresses who use fancy shawl dance footwork.

So in answer to Musicedu77's question. Yes, this is possible to fancyshawl and jingle,at the same powwow to the same song.

i was going to switch to jingle a long time ago.... after my 3 y/o was born, but my sister was very adament in keeping me fancy... maybe cause she switched to jingle and never went back, or maybe cause she switched to jingle and didnt want me in her catagory... who knows... but she said that SO many switch to jingle and never go back to fancy...

but, then theres all these young skinny girls coimin up to womens cat's and they are GOOD... i dont know...

maybe after this baby ill switch... we'll see how i do... when i cant do 2 songs... maybe ill switch... haha

who knows...

naw i mean jingle dancers who dance fancy shawl and jingle currently...not former shawl....one of my friends whos a jingle dancer sayd that she aint eva heard that before..so i was just curious if itz possible...i guess it iz

i wuz a former shawl dancer ...gawd ages ago...and litterally i do mean ages ago*lol* gonna hit 30 in 2 yrs.. eek! but when i switched to jingle there were many many times i wanted to go back to shawl...but i remember my ma sat me down and jest set me straight that i cant go back cuz jingle is what i was meant to dance other wise the creator wouldnt have given me my dream...i wuz upset a lil but okay too..i jest figure those were good memories in my life.. i was dancing shawl since i was 5 so i was dancing fer long time..

i've actually seen this one woman (when i used to live in the washington state area eons ago) that used to register and dance in all adult woman's categories - jingle/fancy/traditional ... she used to do that quick change thang after each category - run off slip a jingle dress over her fancy dance dress - throw her shawl on her chair and run out and dance ... then she'd come back afterwards and take off the jingle dress, throw on a traditional cape over her and go out and dance ... and now that i think about it i don't remember if she used to place in all the categories every weekend ...
