I dance in a way that feels right. Not to keep up with what's popular. That way, I don't get disappointed and I have a good time and I don't have to worry about "who's the best"

The cones do call attention not only to people, the the spirits also. When a jingle dress dancer dances for the right purpose, the noise of the cones calls the attention to the spirits that draw out sickness, be it emotional or physical.

Have you ever watched a dancer and listened to her cones and you get a euphoria or goosebumps? That is what is happening, the spirits are drawing out sickness. That is why we feel good when we see a jingle dress dancer dance.

I am still trying to find which way works best for me. Lately, depending on the dancing surface, I would go on my toes more.

I tried up on my toes a bit at mt plez and found it easier than before. I know that is due to me going to the gym and working out a bit. *L*. But I do prefer the flat foot way of sidesteppin, keeping it old style.

This one time at Eagle Lake...........

We were sidestepping and I went into a little hole by the MC stand (damn gophers), so I pulled my calf muscle *ouch*. But I kept on dancing and when we were done (we had 4 songs) I looked at the back of my leg and the muscle was like 10 times what it was. Looked like Arnold Swarzzenegger leg.

At Harbor Springs powwow there was this woman who was dancing jingle, she came from Alberta. She caught my eye because of her outfit - it was ojibway floral style. Her straight steps were nice and small and yet, on the contemp side of jingling. Her sidestep was awesome. On the honour beats she'd kind of sway from side to side, still stepping and she'd move her head in the direction of her fan (to the side). She got my vote! Very nice style!
