traditional jingle

I recently went to a contest powwow where they had the categories contemp and traditional. Now i was always tought that traditional jingle dancers dont carry a fan with...both hands on the hips. the first place winner for traditional jingle carried a fan and raised it on the honor beats. is it still traditional or what? im just going by what i was taught.

Well if we are going by what we were taught, I was taught that competition of that nature is not an traditional activity (since it is effectively a contest of visions) and as such, there can be no traditional categories or winners.

Goes double if they are no traditional drums present. Can't have a traditional dance without a traditional drum. So sayeth the Lord.

And that's the low down from (most of) Treaty3.

yeah it was pretty good. rained half the time though. lots of really good dancers though.
