Hey ladies.....I am looking to fly to a couple of pow wows soon. What were you experiences trying to get your dresses through security (cones on dress), etc? Especially when flying over the Canadian/US border...thanks!

Ummmm
I flew to GON a few years back with my jingle dress and I didn't have a problem. The thing I would say is to have your dress/leggings etc in separate suitcase that can be easily searched. I heard of someone actually saying what it was ...like with a post it. But I'm not sure if that would be necessary. I say, keep your plume and feathers with you on the carry on. I would HATE for you to lose them or have something steal them.
Hth

I had problems
I had trouble. I guess If your flying through countries, they want to know why the metal detector is going off.
So... due to the hole 911 thing,I would be a bit careful crossing borders if you do? lol ( I got handcuffed in public) Uhm, Id recamend opening the regalia infront of the ticket claimer.Even asking a head of time, and buying insurance for your lugauge. Cause its probably priceless. But since im a small person , my dress fits into a carry on bag. I leave the beadwork and feathers in a plastic container in my other suitcase. Good luck in your travels

I've flown with my dress a couple times, and didn't have too much trouble. I just told the security people what it was when they asked, and took it out to show them, and that's it, because it was on a carry-on with my feathers and stuff. Just make sure they're aware of it if they ask though, lol.

My mom (Comchocldy) is a flight attendant for United and whenever she flies to Albuqurque during GON she takes good care of her dancer passengers. However I don't think she's flown that route since 911. I'll ask her to post some suggestions for you. I have tons of stuff that couldn't board a plane in my regalia bag come to think of it (awls and blades for last minute repairs). Guess I'd have to separate them and check those to get the rest of the bag on the plane.

NO tRouBlE @ aLL
I had no trouble at all getting all of my regalia there, it was a carry on and they didn't even want to know what it was or anything. and my fan case they didn't ask about either, all they did was run it through the scanner, and wa-la I was on my way!
