I would line it with a cotton, but then again, it would probably trap all the heat in. I've had satin dresses before, and I think that's what happened. It's been awhile since I had a satin dress.

DEFINATELY line it because I have a purple dress that I had to totally redo the bottom because the weight ends up fraying the satin & eventually rips it all together. I made 2 new dresses outta satin & they are both lined so they will last longer. If ya think it'll be too hot just make it short sleeved

I have a satin jingle dress and it is lined with cotton. It is definitely needed as the satin doesn't hold up too well with the weight of the jingles. Soooo....the word for today is "cotton".

my sis used to make mine outta satin. If you use sheet metal cones there real light, so ya dont have to worry about the weight. But yeah i couldnt agree more about cotton.

Why not use satin fabric as a secondary fabric on the designs and/or arms, etc.; and use a nicer more durable fabric such as polished cotton or a poly-cotton mix, for the main part of the dress?

have a satin dress, i've had it for like, 5 years. I havent worn it in a long time but its still practically new looking. I wore it alot too.
but its lined with cotton and its held up. either way you're gonna be hot dancing right?? and if you're planning on lots of designs then those will make the dress hotter.

For my last dress, I used satin, but it was a really heavy bridal-type satin. I think it was called Duchesse satin or something. I didn't have to back it with anything because it was already so durable, but the material is expensive, about $15 a yard. The drawback, though, is it was HOT!!!!
This go round I'm using a lighter satin and backing it so I won't be roasting this year!Good luck! |

i know this is late
But I had a satin dress and the jungles would sway back and forth ....it ended up leaving a black line (I would clean the jingles). I wouldn't do it again.

jingles can leave marks on any fabric, it sometimes depends on the type jingles that you use and how they are turned. When you use satin to make a jingle dress, use "Bridal Satin" if it is going to be on a weight-bearing part of the dress. I have seen some dresses made from that "Baroque satin" that they sell at Joann's and it falls apart quickly. Lining a light fabric is a must!! Bridal satin in a heavier weight satin that is usually found on spools not bolts at Hancock fabrics and similar stores. Hope that helps.

How strange
I know exactly what you're talking about. That's the kind I used (or my grandma used) for my last satin dress. Yet, it still made those lines. The last fabric I used was a crushed velvet.
