Jingle project
Hello all,
I am currently taking a course at West Virginia University(actually it's an english course...but it's Native American Literature) and we were assigned a project, basically on anything Native American, and I decided to do my project on Jingle Dancing. I have wanted to make a jingle dress for a while now, so this is a good opportunity. I also have to write a paper on the history of the dance. My Shawnee Clan Mother gave me a jingle dress pattern(from Missouri River), but I'm sure that's just one of hundreds. I was wondering, any ideas or thoughts about different patterns, or anything else? Thanks!! Rabbit Dancer |

flynangl1, I really don't like that pattern. I've sewn alot of dresses and I wouldn't recommend that pattern.
I actually have made my own patterns out of shirt patterns, dress patterns, costume patterns, and skirt patterns. It just depends on the style I want. That's just my opinion tho! :) |

pattern
I agree with ndnmba it`s about what you like.
My dress is shaped like a T-dress and the sleeves go down to my elbows they`re open on the lower side so they`re not too stiff and I`m really not into these poofy sleeves. Other than that its very simple. I suggest you check out other dresses and pick whatever you like, there are a lot of possibilities nowadays. Good luck! |

Takes the sleeves from one pattern, the neck from another, skirt from another.

update...hehe
I want to say that this is a great forum. There are so many intelligent and gifted women(and men) who give their opinions, facts, teachings, etc. on here. I have learned so much already. My clan momma and I are making a trip up to Buckhorn/Peterborough the wkend of Oct 8-9-10 to visit some of her friends on the Curve Lake Rez(hopefully....if she can find their number) if she can't get in contact with her...we might just take a tent! If anyone knows anyone around up there who might be willing to talk with me, that would be so great!!!
Thanks again! Lara |
