As far as fans go...I have a black turkey and working
on a white turkey wing flat fan...i personally dont preferr painted feathered fans b/c a) there too hard to keep neat lookin and b)theres too much dispute here in toledo about them... I do have my great grandma's/grandpa's and grandpa's eagle flat fan and wing fan...but those are only used on special occasions only...drop fans are only used in mens dances i've also seen men with flat and tail fans..maybe the tradition with useing drop fans is becomign more powwow than less in native church...just a thought..but i hope not.. |

I have a immature golden eagle tail fan.
I've usually seen straight dancers and gourd dancers use drop fans made out of eagle, macaw, & siccortails feathers. I also seen fans made from macaw feathers and they were pretty especially when the color goes with their beadwork.

I use an immature golden eagle tail fan as well.
I have only seen one drop fan used by a womens southern straight dancer here in BC before. It was different. I dont think I would use a drop fan personally, but it was neat to see something different. |
