What do you think of dresses that have ribbons or fringe hanging on them? We saw a woman wearing a jingle dress with fringes. My mom said, "She should make up her mind. Fancy or jingle." Just wondering.

confusing regalia
Since you asked for opinions :D
I cant stand fringe on jingle dresses. It looks way too busy and in many casess, even tacky. I saw one dancer one time, she had long ribbon fringe coming out of the bottoms of all of her cones. I also saw a dress with a bunch of cowries sewn to it, just like on a woman's traditional dresss. I see a lot of this kind of thing with chicken dancers too, like they switched for traditional or grass just added some things from their new style to the old style. Within my family, the opinion is that when someone mixes styles like that it looks like the person dancing is uninformed or worse yet, lazy. They may not be uninformed or lazy, but it can appear that way to others. It sure does give a new twist to "dance your style though" :D Last edited by sookout sh'nob; 08-07-2004 at 11:01 AM. |

I like how it looks when theres short fringe on the very bottom of a dress... same color as the dress though I think looks best.

I've seen that dress before, the one that looks like a tradish cape on top, with the long buckskin fringe, then it was a jingle dress at the bottom. I think she was trying to be innovative or something. The dress look confused to me. LOL.

i personally think that is going a lil wayyy overboard and tacky lol... whats next..hanging jingles from from the end of these long strands of ribbons/fringes??? :lol2: :50:
the only tribes i see using long fringes and having some type of cone shaped metal thing at the end are the traditional apache women dancers.....and thats buckskin traditional dresses for their ceremonies...
