I have a niece who is seven and she is interested in dancing and competing as a jingledress dancer. But I am a little concerned about it. She was taught the history behind the dress by another dancer since there are no other jingle dress dancers in our family. My concern is that this in not traditionally a dance of our tribe. She sees these girls dancing and she loves the grace and beauty of them, but I thought that in order for her to be a jingle dress dancer she had to be given the dress in a ceremony. Is this true? I know in our area alot of girls dance and don't have that permission to do so,but I don't want her to do something that is disrespectful to another person traditions. So can she dance and not be given the dress in the proper ceremony?:dontknow:

people might tell you that the colors you use have to be given to you to, but not these dayz :Tongue
