Contest Dancing
One more question then I'm done.
What do judges look for SPECIFICALLY when judging Jingle Dress? I've got the fan on the Honor Beats and I know they judge foot work, but are there any OTHER MUST HAVES to be judged on?

For any style, judges look for dancers to:
1. Dance on beat 2. Dance their style 3. Honor the honor beats according to their style 4. Stop on the last beat with both feet on the ground Those are the really big ones. If you mess those up, your footwork could make you look like you're floating on air and it wouldn't matter. So once you've got those four down, judges look at everything from your footwork (are you coordinated and graceful), to your regalia (does it look like you have 365 jingles and 7 rows of them), sometimes even your facial expression (i.e. try to look like you're having a good time dancing, look proud, etc.) Hope this helps

Thanks for answering! I know from Shawl & Traditional contesting that those are the BIGGIES of ANY contest. I just didn't know if there was ANYTHING Jingle dance specific that I needed to know.

I have to go with the post on facial expressions, if you are out there having a good time and show it, it is a bonus. Some dancers look too serious out there...lol. The Jingle Dress category requires grace and pose, make the cones move to the drumbeats.

:Chatter TRUE (CLOSED FISTED FIVER ON THAT CALL) JUDGES LOOK FOR THE SAME OH SAME OH PEOPLE, THEN IF THERE ARE NONE THEY GO BY THE OUTFITS AND THE BEAD WORK. DONT EVEN BOTHER WITH FANCY WORK NOWADAYS JUDGES DONT EVEN LOOK AT THE FOOTWORK.
YOU COULD EVEN STICK YOUR TONGUE OUT AT THE JUDGES I BET THEY WOULDN'T NOTICE THEY JUST WATCH OUT FOR THE SAME BIG LEAGURES. BUT I DONT MIND IT'S HARD FOR US TO BE UP AT THE TOP. LOL!!

What I look for as a judge (straight song): Start on time, not taking leads from another dancer, appropriate style, light on feet & graceful, good timing & rhythm with the drum, on the beat throughout the song, honor beats & good use of fan, use of arena space, footwork coordination (same steps right & left), choreography & creativity of steps, balance, posture up is upright, complete regalia, color coordination of regalia, dress appears to have 365 jingles & 7 rows (for adults), beadwork, good sportsman like conduct, looks confident & proud, stage presence, look pleasant and last but not least stop on a dime!
side step: all of the above and opening position (ready), appropriate step & uniqueness of side step, moving around in a circular pattern and ending on time with the drum.:mrcool: :rating10: |

You are a hard judge to please. Anyway I like lots and lots of energy, footwork, different steps, show poise/grace and posture count with me.
ENERGY!!! ENERGY!!! ENERGY!!! |
