Hi, we have a friend that was living in Georgia and now is up here in NC, he's Taino too! I bet his family would love to have a gathering. He does powwows right now. You should look into a gathering in the south and maybe setting up a society like they have up in the North East.

Taino people
Tau Everyone,
We visit several village sites that are still part of the Taino people, Utuado, this area has one of the Ceremonial ground still visited and be walked on it is one of the most breath taking areas with the mountain protecting it, Ponce, Tibes grounds is just outside of Ponce, just discovered in the several years ago after a hurricane the river came over the ground and wash the dirt away, one of the largest. Jayuya also in the mountains the most used grounds today, families and friends still use the grounds and the people there are awesome with alot of them still doing crafts and farming this one has the Cemi shown by the mountain...I have pictures that I will show soon. Aguada also has grounds , Caguas, and Santa Isabel has the hot mineral springs for healing and Guanica has stories and areas that the Spanish did not interfer with it has several trees in the Biosphere that are over 700 years old before the Spanish came. The mountains have awesome waterfalls, and springs that are still use by the people....

Hello. So, how much Taino tradition is left in Puerto Rico now. Is there any that does not have "white society" mixed in, for example the catholic church or such? Also, are there any native people in Puerto Rico that know or speak their traditional languages?

Quote:
There are alot of Taino's left, back several years ago the government did a DNA on those of us who claim there heritage and found out that over 88% had over 70% native blood the lanuage is being brought back to the people and most area's in the mountains are coming out to start talking again about the people. There are several sites on the web as well as documents stating the status of the Taino people dont get me wrong I am not an expert on anything but like most was told by my family and I also visit Puerto Rico to get first hand info....Traditions are still around from family to family and the lanuage is being spoken by some and now is being written down.....Church in some area's are strong the Catolic's especially, but again it 's that way everywhere that the European's invaded...
