I'll share a little about myself, and I hope to hear from some of you. I'm Chitimacha, living on the rez in south Louisiana. Most of my life outside of work is spent in a weight room, training. I'm a competitive powerlifter, competing in the bench press. I possess a Master's degree in Exercise Science. I'm a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Club Coach, and USA Powerlifting State Referee. I guess my true passion is obvious. I do, however, need to get more active on the powwow scene. I'm not a dancer, but I'd love to learn. I simply enjoy the welcoming family atmosphere.

Just wondering, are there any famous native weightlifters? Not something anyone really thinks of.

Oddly enough, I just started asking people the same question. Powerlifting consists of the squat, bench press, and deadlift, and I do not know of any famous Natives in the sport. That's exactly what I'm looking for! On the other hand, Olympic Weightlifting consists of the clean and jerk as well as the snatch. I am familiar with a very successful coach in this area. Personally, I'm more curious about powerlifting. If you hear anything, please let me know.

Welcome to the site!

I seem to remember seeing something on the history channel regarding Native atheletes, but I cannot recall what events. Maybe if I get a chance to dig it up I'll see if they're under powerlifting.
