I thought you had to be very young or very old to have applesauce with your vitamins !!

{What did I do to be healthy today?}

I went on a 2 1/2 mile hike up to a waterfall with 2 friends.
We were hiking in a canyon where there had recently been
a bad fire, and went there as much to inspect the fire
damage as to see the waterfall and get some exercise.
After the hike went to a powwow.

LJWorld.com / Study: Low-carb diet best for weight

I hope this link works...lol. It's from the local paper and it says that low-carb diets are not only best for weight loss as compared to a low-fat diet, but also improve cholesterol levels more effectively than a low-fat diet.

Thought of you immediately Wyo when I read this.

For the past several days I was away from home, so I couldn't do my work outs or things like that.

But I stayed away from the sweets that were all around me and I drank at least two bottles of Organic fruit juice each day that I was gone and I walked alot.lol

Thanks!! And thanks for the link! I know the diet works...now why is it so hard for me not to cheat!

One thing I don't do is PLAN AHEAD as to what I'm going to eat. Gotta work on that.

I started a food log (again) yesterday on fitday.com. It's amazing how these little "cheats" add up.

A food log sound really nice. You recored everything you ate and snacks too. Mine would fill up fast. What is your normal day of eating? Mine is cereal in the morning, Then at 10:00 am , I have wheat toast with butter and jelly. I have a glass of orange juice with that. (In the winter I have hot cocoa). Lunch is a ham and cheese sandwich. (3 slices, and 1 slice of cheese). Dinner is chicken with brown rice and green beans. I also have some cooked cabbage with dinner.

This is the diet my doctor gave me to lower my dangerously high cholesterol and triglyceride levels:

Primary Care - Believe in Better Health Toolkit - 1500-Calorie Diet

It worked too! When I stuck to this diet, and replaced sugar with Splenda, I lowered my cholesterol and triglycerides to acceptable levels and lost twenty pounds as well.

To be healthy today, I weeded my garden. Battling weeds is good exercise.

I read through your low cholesterol diet. A 1500 calories is a low amount because the normal amount is 2000, right? That's a very nice diet printed out with salads, lean meat and sandwiches.

If you weeded your garden you got plenty of exercise for the week. I did house cleaning today so that is mine.

I don't count calories, I count carbs...but logging food at fitday.com will automatically count everything for you.

My typical day looks like this:

Breakfast: veggie and cheese omelet or egg sandwich (egg, cheese, bologna or turkey breast) with NO BREAD
Snack: string cheese, almonds, pork rinds with sour cream or veggies with ranch if I only had protein for breakfast
Lunch: taco salad, chicken salad, chef salad OR cheeseburger patty with low carb deep fried green beans or onion rings
Dinner: Meat and veggies as in a steak and mashed cauliflower with gravy, or a chicken stir fry or pork green chili
Dessert: Chocolate mousse (whipped cream with cocoa and splenda), rhubarb with splenda, low carb smoothie or 85% chocolate bar.

I really liked that list of your days food. The omelete, salads, rhubarb, and chocolate mouse. That sound heavenly !!

My Grandma Weldon and I use to make rhubard pie. Did you ever make rhubard pie? She had a garden with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, potatoes, rhubard, and berries. She grew raspberries in her garden. She also had 5 apple trees that grew green apples. We made those into pies too. She froze the rest. In the basement was a huge freezer.

Actually, calorie intake varies according to age. As a 52 year-old woman, my normal calorie intake should be about 1600 per day. My doctor wanted me to lose the weight, so he gave me the 1500 calorie per day diet to follow. When I followed it, I lost the weight. I still try to keep my calorie intake low, but I am not being as stringent as I once was, which is my mistake. If I kept to it, I would be down to my ideal weight of 135 lbs pretty quickly, I think. As it is, I am just holding at about 155. This is more of a lifetime change of eating habits than a temporary diet. I am trying to get back into the lower calorie routine.

Here is the MyPyramid.gov chart:
