Since I have this big boot on my foot now for the next 6-8 weeks I'm using the time to concentrate on getting back on track with eating well and doing what exercise I can. Today I took my calcium supplement, drank some soy milk, took my vitamin, bought a new organic cereal at the store and tried it out, and am now getting ready to go lift weights.

I was healthy the past 2 days too....lol. Ate really well, did a Pilates video on Wednesday and rode an arm bike for 40 minutes yesterday. This boot is so heavy it has to be helping me burn up some calories as I limp around work and after my babies.
I'll be healthy in September den. Actually, I ate healthier in August and got the ok from the doc to "run and jump" August 1st (after 2 metatarsal stress fractures in the left foot). So I've been exercising (Slim in 6 videos & elliptical) and eating better. I lost 13 pounds!!! Since June.

Good for you Ol' Girl! I got the boot off last Tuesday and can do everything but "run and jump." Will go back for more x-rays in the middle of October and see what they say then. So I'm luvin the elliptical machine and the recumbent bike! Beats the heck out that arm bike....hated that thing.

Arm bike, huh? Bet u have stronger arms now. And that's way better than doing nothing! At least it keeps your mindset on exercise.

Oh NO! What happened???

My month is off to a bad start healthy-wise...lol. I'll be healthy tomorrow..hahaha. My allergies are acting up and I'm waiting for my anti-histamine to kick in...sitting her just miserable now, blowing my nose and sneezing. But on the bright side, my foot feels good and I can walk without favoring my bum wheel. I caught myself breaking into a short run over the weekend chasing my little ones at a powwow and it didn't hurt or twinge or anything. Still am keeping it all very low-impact though until I get the go-ahead to do more. I'll looking very professional in my dress clothes and running shoes....lol....but I hope to be back in work shoes pretty soon. Keep me updated on that foot.

Allergies? I use generic Claritin-D. But what a pain having to sign for it with your driver's license and all. The Sudafed in it. You can't buy more than two 10-pill packs in a month and there seems to be more than 20 days in most months.

Downtown Chicago has lots of men and women all dressed up with gym shoes on. My podiatrist wants me to wear good supportive shoes ALL THE TIME. I keep tellin hubby to bead my New Balance...jk!

Doc thinks it's a stress fx, but if it's not, it might be tryna be one? Go back on Fri for more x-rays. Stress fx's don't show up on x-rays until they start to heal. 15 days in this boot and my foot feels better, but no where near 100%. I started dancing and running right away and didn't build up intensity. I can't drive 55! So anywaze, I must have been favoring the left foot. I have a screw in my big toe on the right foot from bunion surgery, so the other toes already have more of my weight on them. They obviously were not going to have any more of it. Hope to see you in Milwaukee!

Last night I actually played kick ball. Our rez's recreation department started a new kickball league, and my husband's aunt put in a team for us. Young and old were playing, so it was neat, but we lost badly last night.

That is so cool! I'm working with a program that is writing diabetes education curriculum for Indian children grades K-12, and I love hearing about family-based activities that promote wellness/physical activity. I can't wait for my babies to be old enough to do things like kick ball. Might be something to suggest for my work place's wellness program.

Myself, what I did to be healthy today was I decided to forgo trying Sonic's new whopper blizzard-like thing and picked up a bunch of mixed fruit at a salad bar instead. I feel healthy already...lol. Going to teach my diabetes class now and try to motivate others to adopt healthy habits.

Ol' Girl, we WILL see you in Milwaukee...hope I'm dancing by then, but we'll see.

Actually I've been doing something healthy for the past 3 weeks and it's starting to have tangible results. Making a long story short, I ended up in a chair 5 years ago. It meant a change in the way I lived my life Big Time. I had to reconcile with the reality that a lot of things I did and liked to do were no longer on my list.

Call it being angry, call it sulking (I favor the latter) - I didn't change what I was eating. I was one of those people who used to be able to eat whatever I wanted. I was so active those calories didn't dare hang around. That was BC (before chair). AC (after chair) I still liked to eat good food and cook good food and, uhm, those calories they did pile up - at the rate of about 25-pounds-a-year-pile-up. 5 and 1/2 years later, here I am.

Now, I haven't had any ill health effects (yet) - no diabetes (although there is history of it in the maternal side of the family) and no high blood pressure (but the paternal side - bad news there). But even I had to admit - things had gotten WAY out of line and I'm not getting any younger. It was time.

So 3 weeks ago I decided to stop acting like a child with free run at the buffet bar and eat like I know I should under my life circumstances. Veggies, fruit, leaner meat, portion control, eat 5 small meals (especially the easiest meal of the day to skip - breakfast) - all that stuff. Because of what put me in the chair, I can't do much in the way of physical exercise (like lifting weights or walking) but I did start doing isometrics and a kind of seated tai-chi.

*grin* I was able to tighten my chair's seat belt by a total of 3" over the last 3 weeks and, by the way my clothes are fitting, I've lost some bulk all over. I'm taking a page from my own advice (in helping other people lose weight and get fit) and I'm not worried so much about what weight the scale is showing... seeing a decrease in SIZE is much more satisfying.

I didn't get this heavy overnight and I know it's gonna be a couple of years before I get back down close to my BC weight... it's a process, a lifestyle change, but at least I've started.
