Wink My dog has Prostatitus!

This is so ridiculous, but true. I wonder what ever happened to the good ole' days, when I was a kid. It was a given that if the family pet "rez-dog," so much showed an indication of illness, or aggression towards the family, or ate the chickens at the farm in the neighborhood, he was "going to the movies" with my dad. This being my dad's way of saying: the family dog was going into the woods with dad and his gun and only one of them would return! Now I'm the mom in a household, and I like to think I'm tough. Our stupid male cocker-spaniel is just back from his second trip from the animal hospital suffering from another bought of infection from this disease. The first time he just about died from it; because he hadn't been diagnosed, the bill was almost $800. Yesterday I had a bill of $560 to pay. I actually asked the Vet before she started, how much to put the old dog to sleep? She giggled at my question; to which I called home to get a second opinion from my husband. I was hoping to have him agree with me, since our dog has other old dog health issues. He didn't; he's getting sentimental too; his dad was much like my dad growing up, he'd bash the brains in of useless dogs. Well,
Baxters alive and well today, thanks to the miracle of modern medicine and our credit-card. He's still a pain in the **s; he can't hear, his bottom lip shakes, he still scent marks everything in the house, and he's up and around bothering our in-heat female! BTW, he's scheduled in 2 weeks to be neutured, this should keep him from getting these infections in the future, hopefully it will cure him of these other habits also. I'll be optimistic, but I still think it would have been easier to "take him to the movies."

i had a dog that went to the movies once... i didnt talk to my dad fer a week... I wasnt dumb I knew what happened...

No Kidding tho... vets are expensive.. just if not more in some cases than human docs....they really should be allowed to be claimed as dependents fer tax purpose and we Should get Pet benefits... LOL Kinda like the CTB we get here in canada fer our kids.. rofl...

Naw.. tho.. I wuv my doggy she cute and I dunno what i would do without her...

You know; now that I think about it, I never as a kid heard or saw any white kids' dads treating their dogs that way, or breaking their kids' hearts like that. My dad was just matter of fact about it; we all knew that the family pet was not actually "going to the movies."

Well My father is white.. he is my adopted father. he didnt believe in making animals suffer or prolonging it further.
he always says you can take them to the vet to make them comfortable but in the end they gonna go anyway. to an extent i believe this.. but then again parts of it seem so cruel

My husband also grew up like this; his family had a dog team, and he was the only boy in the family so it was his duty to take care of these things, this way as a kid.. When I called home the day before last to get approvel to just put ole' Baxter to sleep, I was very suprised at how sensitive he was about his response, believe me my husband is not a real sensitive kind of guy. I think he was just thinking of our two kids and how it would affect them, I'm glad he's not as heartless as my dad. He pointed out; how Baxter is special to our family. He's not the kind of rez-dog we grew up with. For goodness sake he's a cocker-spaniel; he doesn't pull a sled, he doesn't protect us(he's a wimp, even the female beats him up), and he lifts his leg on everything we own when she's in heat. Oh, well he's alive now like I said before, and he will be neutured in exactly 2 weeks. I guess the kids can look at their dad now like he's a hero for awhile. I'm just concerned that Baxter will die now from one of his many other ailments, and I will want to kill him because he has cost us so much dough lately.

Hang in there WW... Im sure the dog loves you Sooo much for extending his time with your great family. its good your husband feels that way, could be that because it was His job in the past that he knows only too well how it feels and is saving your kids from feeling that way. Good for him and U..
Bless that animal and I hope he doesnt suffer too much. I am sure you are doing all you can to make it the best for him, hes a luky canine.

Well the stupid dog is back to his own self again; chasing the female around like a young guy in heat. The anti-biotics and pain killer that cost me more than $100 is working wonders for the old guy. Little does he know, he's scheduled to go under the knife and lose his man-hood in exactly 10 days.

WW,
I'm glad to hear that you didn't take Baxter to the movies, although the neutered part sends shivers down my spine. LOL.
My wife has a Yorkie that took 2 and 1/2 years for me to grown onto. She's real old, has a bad back leg, stinks the day after having a bath.... won't eat dog food. I don't even consider her a dog, she's too dang little to be a dog. She's more like a cat in dogs clothing.
I used to look forward to the day that she "naturally" went to the movies. Then something happened. She went missing.
I found myself making signs, running an ad in the paper, driving around and looking under rocks and such. Some people had her, saw one of our signs, and called us after about 3 days. I was real happy to see her. I think I need to get my head examined... LOL...
