I don't take OTC or prescrition drugs much due to the usually adverse effects. Most times I don't take anything, just let my system fix whatever's ailing me, but I prefer to use the traditional medicines to the "modern" ones...they seem to work better even if they take a bit longer.

I can't take anti inflamatories due to the crohnes disease, an allergic to both pennicilin and sulfa so what few medications I can take don't work at normal doseages. When I had strep throat this winter they had me on 500 mg of antibotics twice a day and 150 mg of cough medication twice a day.
My Choctaw grandmother had to be put to sleep to have dental heavy work done because the dentist just could not get her mouth numb enough do the root canals. I'm afraid my daughter is almost as bad.
What tribe are you again? I have heard you talk about so many I forget which one you said. Anyway, I am Choctaw and I have to be put to sleep too. I cant get numbed by a dentist and as far as meds go, I dont even think I could get addicted because none of it works for me. I am like, and agree with Little wolf on this one all the way! Attarax? I am allergic to sudafed. This wannabe doctor nurse told me one time that I couldn't be allergic to an allergy med. I am glad I saw this because she made me feel like I was lying or something. Why would anyone lie about allergies? DUH, some people.

My father was full blooded Creek and my mother was Scot's Choctaw. I've been told that have the Chowtaw fectures with the Scot's eyes.
Ironically there is 1 medication that will knock me out once I lay down to sleep and it only takes 10mg. It was orginally put on the market as a antidepressant, but the found out that the side effect is that it also relaxes all the major muscles and organs in the body and it is now used for crohnes patient, for night time only. It's Elavil. It doesn't put you to sleep, but once you lay down it will knock you out. It's suppose to be taken at bedtime, but I have to take it around 3pm if I want to be able to get up the next morning. The 1st. time I took it was a weekend and hubby finally stood me up at noon tried walking me around to wake me up.
Now I only take it when I have over done my muscles or feel on the verge of a chrones flare up because it is HIGHLY addictive. A nurse friend that works in a local nurseing home says they have patients come in all the time that have to be weaned from it because they have been taking it since the 60s.

Elivil is an antidepressant, we give it to dogs for anxiety. I have never heard of it being highly addictive, I am glad it works for you though. My Hubby and I both used to have to take it, He took 100ml and I took the 25ml, It wasnt addictive to us and we didnt have to be weaned off of it. Maybe we are to NDN for it to work, lol...

My friend Cherie who works in the nurseing home says that the women who come in addicted to it at white and have been on it 30 or more years with their doctors gradually upping the dosage as the years pass. I still don't want to take the risk. I've seen what addiction can do to people and I don't want to put my family or myself through that.

Yeah, i can see how that could be true and you should never risk becoming addicted to anything. They do have to up the dosage on those types of drugs and aslo if it is a high dose due to that I can see where they would be weened from it, The docs 30 years+ ago didnt know what they know today, so I can see how that would be right.

Also though, If it works for you then dont be afraid to take it either. Just dont allow him to up the dosage and like you said only take it at night. Its hard to find things that work for you and a doc willing to give it to you, nowadays! I am happy that you found something that works for you.

I got lucky in the dr. area! My regular doc makes all the other dr.'s send her copies of their reports for her files, even my dentist! I picked her orginally because she had praying hands on her business cards and I thought this lady wasn't taking any chances. My crohnes speciallist told me the 1st. time he had to do surgery on me that he had preformeed 1,500 of these surgeries and only 2 went wrong. He then told me why those went wrong. I was shocked to find 2 honest doctors in 1 town!
Both of these dr.'s will fit you in at any time and when I had a stroke last year and my dr. was out of town she flew back to check on me from N.Y. I've been going to both of them almost 15 years now and there is no way I would change.

I used to have strange reactions to drugs back in the late 60's!
