I don't think you know what competition is all about.

It doesn't matter if I'm out there dancing alone, or against 40 other people, the more, the merrier. As I stated before, if those other 14 people have a problem with someone registering late, it's because they don't know how to dance/compete.

Its my opinion that someone who shows up late should be allowed to register. If you feel that it's not, perhaps you should focus more on dancing better, and less on complaining.

The black/white areas in life are not what counts, its filling in all the grey that does.

So yes, a name much worse than hypocrite is suitable. Thanks for the clarification.

I had a friend that was on parole from a 3 year sentence, breaking and entering.. His 3rd checkin, or meeting, or whatever it was, the bus he was on broke down, so he ran the 28 blocks to the building. The officer violated him, he was roughly 15 minutes late.

He just finished his sentence about a year ago, his son is 5 now.

You are indeed much worse than a hypocrite.

you know what, I re-read this thread & this is what I think. Weather you excuse lateness (because life happens) or not, the sore loosers will always find something to complain about. After all complaining about why they lost is easier then trying harder & learning more. You can pretty much see this in the comments, I'm willing to bet that those who have posted about how much they hate those that are late etc, are the dancers who have never won & are ticked about it. Good luck with that. I would suggest an attitude change, it may even help you win.

What we have here is a failure to communicate!!! I've this somewhere's before and rather than confront the issue head on I believe we are getting too involved in semantics. I wonder who will end up winning due to using big words, political jargon, leading us down a path that we find twisting, turning, tangle town routes, etc, etc, etc. There are pow wows that we don't attend simply due to the dishonesty and nepotism of their committee. There are pow wows that we attend where people have a good time, get fed by the committee, have good feelings, and come away with a positive attitude. Let's face it, we all know these feelings. Last week end at P.I. someone lodged a complaint and was told that if they had a complaint that they need to post a monetary amount. The person did exactly that. If someone feels that they have a legitimate beef then let them put their money where their mouth is....that's one way to quell all the gripes and complaints that some people really love to do especially at pow wows. I have a masters degree and yet I prefer to use plain everyday words because that's the way I was raised rather than using $10.00 words that confuse and befuddle people just to show that I have some ejumacation. I agree with you, zeke and others but I'm getting dizzy trying to follow your train.

Totally agree... Dance better, take the chip off your shoulder, and stop worrying about the rest of the world!

Competition is about doing your best on an even playing field. Decidedly NOT what you are espousing, so I think YOU are "confused."

Yeah, I am an American Indian that believes in accountability: sorry if that irks you, or anyone else here.

First, you're friends with a criminal? That's YOUR call, but do not pretend he is not a criminal. B&E? Three years? He was lucky to be out: Comment edited by Whome. Please, note the words you post on a public forum. He knew both the score and what he was responsible for.

Geez! Where do Native, and other, social apologists keep coming from?

This goes right back to the point of the thread! We should just excuse everything, including registration rules, because Native people just cannot perform any better?

Ridiculous. Sets us back...

Correct, but it should be done so with efficacy, not apologist and "poor me" rhetoric that is embarrasing and whiny.

You mean the rest of the world that, oh say, expects some accountability? Or do you mean the "rest of the world" that thinks they are owed something and can show up whenever the hell they want?

Think not. Besides last time I lost anything I came in 3rd in a potato dance, lost to my daughter, who barely entered cause she was in the port-a-potty & came running up with her partner last minute. I'm damn proud of her for placing before me but I'm determined not to let her do it again!...LOL
Bet the last time you lost you just complained about all us damn backwards NDN's.

I am never offended by value-added disagreement: you've said some highly-defendable things which have caused me to think. In addition -- because she is on my ignore list -- you've allowed to me see a query from Suzze. To retort:

Uh, no, Suzze, I've never committed a B&E, nor do I empathize with anyone who has. (You?) In addition, I don't spend time with the felonious.

Sorry to disappoint.

I'm actually going to end my conversation with you here. I don't care who you are, you have no right to judge my friends by what a court determines. You also have no right to judge my friends by what they may, or may not have done.

If you choose to narrow your list of 'friends' by what they may, or may not have done, and you judge them solely on their past, and not who they are, thats fine, continue to live your life as your list of friends get smaller and smaller.

I could care less. In my humble opinion, your nothing more than an apple. You think your a self righteous individual?

Your nothing more than a whiner... All you've done so far is whine about what other people can do, that you can't.

I'm actually done posting in this thread, I would just like to state, in the end, it's up to the committee to decide who gets to sign up late to compete, no matter what the circumstances surrounding the lateness are.

Just pray if you are late, Zeke isn't on the committee, he might try to get you locked up for attempting to break the rules.

Is one more right than the other? Naw, not really. Do what you think is best.

If you honestly think that turning away a family that traveled hundreds of miles is whats best for the people involved, or the pow wow itself, by all means, commit social suicide. Not like we can't find another powwow to goto.

If you feel that letting this person, or this family register, after registration has clearly been closed, you have a few choices:

Let them register, hope nobody notices, and be prepared to deal with the end result.

(Or my personal favorite) Ask the dancers if they care, take the majority vote. Either way, it doesn't matter, you'll upset someone.

I would personally love to see a powwow tell a family of 8-10 that they can't register, because they were late, and see 3/4 of the powwow leave because of it.

I bet Zeke would love that too, he might actually place... But then again, appearance is normally a factor in judging...

That wouldn't be me, that would be a jury of twelve convicting your friend of felonious activity. In America, I think we ALL get to make determinative judgments based upon court decisions decided by peers. Consider your friend rightly judged: that's just fact.

The point being that felonious friends -- who still harbour "I was railroaded" pleas (or is that just you?) -- will not be missed.

Wow! Calling me an apple. I'd say that I was hurt except, well, I'm not. Not even close. In fact, from you, a badge of honor.

You mean like be accountable? Wait, that's NOT what you meant, you were referring to the "I can't rightly do no better, poor me, entitlement, something is owed to me, I am the exception, I deserve a gift, I can't compete, LOSER status of those that continue to expect that they are OWED the ability to arrive whenever, however, with multiple excuses, the heck they want, just because!" Sad, really...

The Committee? Oh, you mean as when they post RULES? Where they've already decided? Where the expectation was originally communicated? You miss the point: the call has already been made. Cease your incessant, whiny, prattle.

I'd certainly expect you to be accountable, precisely as I would expect you to hold me.
