Line Them All Up!

Hello everyone! Some folks and I were talking the other day and got discussing all the different orders we have seen and been in for Grand Entry. What should a good AD consider when setting their order? How does the type of dance change the order (contest, non contest or honor dance for example)? How does location change things (OK vs. Canada for example)? What is proper order? Thank you!

I would imagine that location has a lot to do about order, I don't think Canada has a specific order, it's a big country, bigger then the US. I live in south eastern ontario. Ususally around here it is verterns, head dancers & elders, jr head dancers (if they have them) Men's trad, men's fancy, grass, Woman's trad (hide first), jingle, fancy shawl. Being that I go to trad & not competition the little children dance with a family member, regardless of style until they are ready to go it on thier own, in thier category. We don't have northern & southern segregation because it is rare at a small powow to see southern, cause that's pretty far away. Most of the hoop dancers around here tend to dance another style as well, but when they dance just hoop the AD makes an on the spot decision. Also there are not alot of Men's fancy dancers in this area in the trad powow circuit, so the really small one's often don't even have this catagory, or there will be like one guy, also I have only ever seen 2 chicken dancers. So yep location & powwow type & size are going to alter the answer so hopefully alot of people will respond & tell us how it's done in thier area.
