Do you know somebody that NEVER has nothing good to say about ANY powwow or ANY winners?
I seem to have run across a few people like this in my lifetime. I just wanted to see if some of you know some people like this as well?

Yeah, I've come across a few of these from time to time...just really negative people overall. These are the people who don't put in the time at home beading and sewing and practicing, but go to a dance and expect to win LOL
I've found, more often than not, these people are negative in just about every aspect of their life...they're not happy with anything...oh well, I'm happy ![]()

That makes a lot of sense Singerdad. I wonder if some of these people were always like that or maybe it is just where they are in their life now? I feel sorry for powwow committees and their headstaff who have to put up with complaints from these people. Especially after all the hard work they have put into the powwow.

i know some ppl like that ... never really happy bout anything. i can get like that sometimes ... jaded ... but not always. sometimes you just get fed up with the same ol same ol (the phoney ppl, same dancers placing and there are other dancers out there that get "overlooked", or ppl complainin bout drum contest winners) ... you know what i mean? but it goes away ... lol ... just learned to not let it get me down. maybe it's the negative ppl gettin ME down
but i know this one chick who complains about her kids not placing all the time. but to me it's more like they need the $$ to get home, eat or whatever. the way i see it if you can't afford to do something, don't do it - you know what i mean? sometimes my family has to feed their kids ...

bahnisiain, These are the exactly the kinds of people I am referring to. Everyone has "moments" when they do not agree with how a powwow is run or the winners. This is human nature. However, there are some individuals that are NEVER satisfied no matter what! These people also seem to bring others into their negativity.

Don't y'all ever just want to tell these people to go home and be miserable, I go for the goodness there. It's never going to be perfect, but perfect is a state of mind not a state of being.
Do you wonder why they go to begin with? |

I think its funny when they complain about the judges, at every pow wow, so there must not be any good judges left in the pow wow world. LOL
Or the feed was not good, geez! Or the singing was too fast, too long, too choppy, too slow. LOL Or the MC talked too long, told naughty jokes too much, made fun of white people too much, etc, etc, etc, Or it was too crowded, or else not enough people there, too cold, too hot,. Yes, there are those whiners everywhere, every state, every tribe. Oh well, they are as much a part of the powwow as vendors and frybread! LOL |

Boozhoo niji,
I ususally keep pretty quiet about stuff that turns bad at a pow wow while i am at a pow wow. After that I might talk about it. If there is too much that I dont like about a pow wow, then I wont go back, but its usually pretty extreme at that point. The only time I ever invoked that rule was a pow wow last spring. They charged me to camp there, and I am a dancer. Then durning the dance session Saturday night, they only played 2 intertribals. There was a whole lot of standing around going on. That and having to pay to spend the night just set me off. I didnt talk about it at the pow wow, but I told my friends later that I would not go back. I am going to this pow wow tomorrow, not the same one but another, and Iknow the MC there, and I know he was at the pow wow I missed. I also know he is gonna raz me about missing that other pow wow. I dont wanna whine, but I aint exactly gonna lie about why I missed that pow wow either. I bet you all he is gonna give me this line, about how I shoulda danced, no matter the cost. I think I will give him one... dancers should be paid, not pay, to dance. Eh? Derek |

slt, You hit the nail on the head. They ARE a part of the powwow. That is why there is the quote "You can never please everyone." I have known some people since childhood. Why I remember them is that they always seemed to talk negatively about powwows and powwow people. Some of these people will never change and continue this trait today. __ badman, There is a actually a reason why I made this thread. Many people who read on powwows.com go to powwows and meet negative people. Many times incidents of negativity cause them grief over a powwow incident. This grief is often hard to let go. But, if you powwow, you need to know that you are going to face this one time or another. It comes with the territory. What I hoped to accomplish is to let people know, "they are not alone when people talk about them or have negative words in the powwow circle."

AMEN to that Whome!!! Sometimes people see and focus only on the whiners and think that all pow wow people are cut from the same cloth, but there are whiners in every society and we are no different. I have been in the arena my whole life and my dad used to say"Let them talk about you, at least they are giving someone else a break" and he would laugh. He always said that talk is cheap, and words don't measure your character, only your actions can show your true inner self. He also said just to let the words slide off of your back and not take them to heart. LOL Those are pow wow words to live by.LOL
