Help with Knowledge of Heritage
Hi, My SN is RavenClaw04, obviously. My Grandfather, while I can't officially prove it, was Full blooded Seminole, and I have Micmac Blood as well. Here's the thing. I dont really know all that much about my Heritage, but I want to. I would love to meet A Micmac tribe {I live in South Portland, ME so that would be easiest for me} but I dont know where to look. I know because of my limited knowledge of my Micmac Heritage, I wouldnt learn much, but I be willing to learn anything I could, So please, if you can help in anyway with teaching my anything you can about these two wonderful tribes, please tell me what I would have to do. Thank you so much.
P.S. By the way, I am not Full Blooded Native, I am Mostly European, Belgian, English and the such...thanks again

You'll hear this a thousand times. Take some tobacco to a Mi'kmaq elder and your questions may be answered. By the way there are 200 Mi'kmaq in the state of Maine so good luck.

LOL.. Ya'll are rugged!
I had a great post and lost it... so here goes again.. pfffft... the first one was way better...
I started out by wondering why this thread was in Head Staff... sooooo here is my 2 cents.... Ravenclaw, you should start by learning about the heritage you were raised .. euro decent. Your grandfather is not so far away in your blood line, perhaps you can locate distant relatives and find out what tribe he was from and more about them and him.. It is hard to gain the kind of knowledge you are looking for, when you don't know where to locate it. There are many different way and many different peoples. The best heritage you can learn from is the one you were raised from as a child. Family ways... Community ways.. Repect for yourself, the earth and all the people on her. If on the way, you happen to learn a little from other cultures , more power to ya. Just don't try to be someone you are not and can't be. Be yourself and you will judged by your ways. Do own a kilt or ever been to Highland games..? Can you make a mean waffle? Ever rode English seat or tried Polo? Do you have a Family Crest? Last edited by ~Journey~; 08-22-2005 at 07:14 PM. |
