New name old dance in Sedalia MO

I want to invite everyone to come to Sedalia MO and help us celebrate a new beginning. New name is Robert Woolery Sr. Memorial Powwow, old name was MO State Powwow.

We ask you to help us dance/sing in Sedalia MO on July 15-17 at the MO State Fair Grounds.

This years HeadStaff are:

Headsinger- Sonny (Albert) Waters Jr.
Headman- Neil Lawhead
Headlady- Rachel Soto
Host Gourd- Cherokee Red Star Intertribal Gourd Dance
Society of Blue Springs.
AD- Roger Crane
MC- Bob Woolery

hummmmmm...my hubby got promoted and we're moving to SE Kansas, so I was checking out MO powwows...turns out Sedalia is 4-5 hours away...kinda far to travel w/ a 10 month old, but thanks for the info.

Hey Walela49:
FYI: In Copan OK there is a dance on Memorial weekend(already gone by but there is next year), 4th of July is at Quapaw OK,in Aug the IICOT dance in Tulsa OK, Laborday weekend is at Ottawa celebration at Miami OK. There is a dance in Marshfield MO just east of Springfield MO. In the Fall the Eastern Shawnees have a dance in Seneca MO. KS has several dances also. There are many more in this area I just couldn't mention.

thanks for that...i powwow in OK alot, so I'm pretty familiar with those dances...i just didn't know jack about dances in MO, ARK, etc...i did check the calendar here and looked at mapquest for mileage to various towns and realized I've got alot of geography to learn! LOL

what happen to Quapaw Intertribal Guard Dancers could they not make it this year. by they way have fun in Kiowa Nation this 4th of July we will be waiting your reply from there

What ever happened to Springfield, Sedalia, Nevada and Neosho, Missouri powwows?

We let the Quapaw group have a little vacation since this group has hosted up here for many years. Our group is starting to show some age now, not too many young members available.

The Springfield Powwow moved to Marshfield MO the dance is the 2nd weekend of June. The Nevada Powwow retired the year after Uncle Ed passed away. Not sure what really happened to the Neosho Powwow, the one in Carthage went to the wayside. There are still several dances throughout the the year in the KC MO area. Eldon Mo had a Powwow 2 weekends ago, very near the Lake of the Ozarks Bagnal Dam. Several weeks ago there was a dance in Salem MO. There is a dance in Grain Valley MO near KC MO, Bob Woolery is the Head Gourd dancer. Sedalia Powwow is coming up very soon, July 15-17, now called the Robert Woolery Sr. Memorial Powwow. There are more that are just slipping my mind right now.

It also went away after Mr.Carlson passed. He always sponsered it and the Family decided it was too much for them to continue.....sad really
Kansas City has several good dances ! A Veterans dance in Nov. and a sobriety dance on New Years Eve. Christmas dance in Harrisonville , Mo. this weekend...well saturday.Dec. 9th
