Allow me to tell you.
We have our dance held on the MO State Fair grounds. About 2 years ago I thought we had our dance tied down pretty well. The Mon. before the Fri. our dance started I received a call from the fair grounds events coordinator to come see him. He told me we could not have the dance in the area we had already contracted. We had to move. Another NDN mass move. We drove around the grounds. He kept trying to get us to move to places way back into the corners of the grounds that would be similar to moving us into the dessert. Finally I agreed to move into a fairly large bldg, It is airconditioned. This did turn out to be a GOD send because that year was extremely hot outside. We came to an agreement that the fairgrounds didn't live up to. They told me they would give us the bldg for a set price and after the dance our billing was extremely larger. We don't have much of a budget anyway. I had to dip into the pocket a little. We honored our staff that year a little better because I thought we had a nice arrangement with the fairgrounds. This events coordinator got caught by his supervisor and he lied to the super and Mde us the escape goat. They told Mom and my Wife that we just had to deal with it because MO didn't really even need nor want NDNs around. Boy howdy I was PI$$ED. We took a member of the local NAACP Rep to a meeting. As it turned out the NDN got $crewed again. Last year we negotiated a little better contract with the fairgrounds people hoping that they would try to honor this one. They did. We are paying more still but our elders have a nice cool place to enjoy the Powwow. I paraphrased and just gave the short story of it. This wasn't the entire story and don't want to bore you all with the MO Govmt vs NDNs.
