How do you put yarn on the pants?

I have an idea of how to do ribbon on the yoke and aprons, but how do you put yarn on the pants, or everything for that matter?

what i used to do when i grassed was to use a shoestring, and tie the yarn onto that then sew it to the material.....

YUP! Thats usually how I do my son's if he is using already made pants. If I have to "make" the pants (yeah right!!), I sew the right length of material onto a matching pair of ready made shorts, but before I do, and before I close up the "pant leg", I lay it flat and sew on the ribbons ( for the pants, I use really wide matching/coordinating ribbons, faster and has a cool look). Then sew it close and the onto the shorts. Took me many frustrating hours to figure this one out, darnit....Why cant you grass dancers stay tiny tot??

I flip a card table upside down, and wind a ribbon around the legs, with a lil slack, so I can "spool" it in when I"m done tying the ribbon or yarn on it. Then I park it, myself, and my skeins in front of the TV in my living room and tie, for HOURS on end (4 grass dancers this year!!). Thats when I buy the most Dominos pizza, or McD's for my kids

well I usually just tie the yarn on to a thin cable like rope, then sew it on using a zig zag stitch. Don't want to make the rope part too thick because its harder to sew it on. I usually have the pants made (yes I make the pants from scratch), then I will sew the yarn on, it's actually easy to do, just be patient.

But I don't like using yarn on the pants because all the weeds, stickers, trees, and bushes get stuck in the yarn very fast. My son has some outfits that have yarn and man its a pain to consistantly brush them out. The ribbons have the same affect too, plus if you get some really bad bushes on it, the ribbon will fray really fast. If I am going to use something on the pants, I will use cotton strips or nothing. But if you have a taller person (not like my short little boy..LOL) you can put the yarn more towards the lower half of the knee or upper calves, it may eliminate the the collection of bushes and trees. LOL.

Just remember to be patient when you sew it on, sometimes it takes me 2-3 times to get it perfect.. good luck
