my son is going to start dancing this summer i need to get started on making his regalia but im not sure on how everything goes together. the arm bands and head gear any help on how to do this would help me out alot...

Check the forum for the style of dance your wanting. Most of them have how to threads on making outfits for each style of dance.

hey grl...thanx for the help.. hes going for the grass. so far he likes it hes beeen wanting to dance for awhile but trying to figure out all what i need and how to get it all togther is just frustrating for me

Do you know any grass dancers in your area that can let you look at their gear, give you a few pointers? You can also look at pictures in the gallery to get some ideas of what you and your son like.

Certain parts of mens/boys outfits are basically the same regardless of the style of dance. Are you going to bead everything, make it out of material or a combination of the two? Are you using yarn or ribbon fringe? That will give us an idea of what you are after.

As for arm bands and a headband it's basically just a strip of material or beadwork the circumferance of the head/arm minus a couple inches for the ties, velcro, elastic (depending on what method you use for getting them to fasten.

Some dances armbands and headbands are a simple strip, others add medalions in the center, others do beaded fringe or beaded loops hanging down on the headband.

The media arts class I teach is making an instructional video for making grass dance outfits. We'll be doing both yarn and ribbon based outfits.
