I'm working with a teen who is just turning from traditional to grass. He has not yet earned any eagle feathers, so he wants to use fluffs, similar in looks to Chicken Dancers. We can't figure out what type of wire to use for the extensions that will have bounce and not be too stiff. Chris is learning traditional ways but also wants to be unique while waiting for his eagles. Any advice and info will be much appreciated. Dancingirl49_

Don't cut it yet - The example i have here has the string in one piece. Let me try to explain it.
The string itself is looped across itself in half of a figure eight shape... this is tied down to a strap leather spreader with thongs (you could also use a good hemp cord or imitation sinew). The guitar string is then tied to a metal wire (looks like coat hanger - election yard signs are a good bet too)that is a one piece job that serves to point the strings upward - again tied on with thongs. The wire is bent sort of like the hour glass on the back of a black widow spide - except; instead of the top (where the wires are attached too) being closed off and finishing the shape, the ends protrude up into the air - this is where the guitar string is tied so that it stands upright - using the wire bit as support. The wire part is also tied to the strap leather base. I hope this made sense - I can try to take some pictures at work (where the roach is) if you'er having trouble with it. |

Pictures would be awesome. I get the idea of what you're talking about but I like the visual aids! I haven't done much posting back and forth, how would I see the pics? On here or email? If email, mine is jillianrsack@comcast.net. Thanks so much for the advice. I've done just about everything for young ladies but still learning with the boys & we don't have any good male instructors around these parts (Northern CA) for Intertribal dance.

necro-threading!
took me forever to get some photos, but here they are. Note that I DID NOT make this, nor was I involved in any way - in fact it's sloppy as all get out, but it'll help someone see how the assembly looks.
