I used bass guitar strings and the last set i made for myself has held up for over 10 years now. I have about 15 plumes on each side to give a full effect.

There is a plastic dowel material called Delrin acetate. It's very light and flexible, but strong -- been tempted to try it out for something like that.

Boings are those fluffy things grass dancers wear in their roach...they fly around. Don't know why I call them boings...just always have...and I just think they're keen

Ok, so...bass guitar string...how do you get the string to stay on the spreader base? Sinew it down? Thanks.

I've always heard them called antennas.... On mine I put 4 holes in my spreader, two holes where you want the antennas positioned and two more about an inch back. I put the quitar string through the back set of holes and then criss-cross the string and run throught the first set of holes. Then I use a piece of clothes hanger, that I bend into a boxed off u shape and put that throught the front set of holes a as well. Then I used sines to wrap around the guitar string and hanger to hold them in place.

This worked well for me, I've used the same set of antennas for over 14 years now....
