Grassdancing

My stepmother used to dance female grass and I borrowed her clothes once at just a social and someone threw a fit...my uncle had to set em straight, but I also danced in my fathers grass clothes once (again at just a hokey dance) I thought it would be fun, ran it by the arena director and stuff put on my dad's clothes and went to town...as a matter of fact someone came up and shook my hand and called me by my dad's name...tee hee.... but I have never done any of that at a real dance, or serious things unless it was a switch dance in which case I like to dance like a singer, or in a mad hatter!

heehee oh yah, i seen a guy in jingle b4, but i didnt know it was a dood till somebody told meh. they found out about him, now he can't dance around here. thats why i was askin, actually. and for tha record, he was one of tha best around that powwow that weekend lmao

Girlz Grass Dance?

well from what i was told that the Grass Dance is a sacred dance to be dance by men, cause its a healing dance. And women have the Jingle dress which is also a healing dance. And it is my understanding that women should not wear mens outfits, because that women might be their "time" which will take the sacredness out of that outfit. And also i hear that if a man has long hair, he shouldnt let any stange women touch his hear or comb, only his mother or sister shoudl touch his hair. Thats what my elders told me.

your beliefs are different from ours up here and im not sure but i can porbably consult a few of my elders as well...and if im on my "time" then i will not even attend a powwow, it was how i was brought up, its too dangerous to others becuz that is a time of power. and with the hair, my cuzin has long hair, he lets nobody touch it, unless they took part in his uwipi ceremony and sat on his blanket. but if a girl touches his hair, then he has to fast for four days. myself, i have never touched a guy's hair if it is long. i dont even think i was told either....hmm...i'll ask anyways about the sacredness thing tho.

Our beliefs are not that much different. I agree with you with a womens time shouldnt be attending powwow and sundances and any other sacred ceremonies. Thanks for replying.
