Lightbulb New Look in Grass

Hi Just saw the latest pictures from Gathering of the Nation. They all looked great. Noticed that most of the Grass Dancers were not using yarn, What are they using now?? Looks like a wide ribbon to me. Any help would be appreciated. :18:

they're 2-3 inch strips of "rag" cotton or whatever kind of fabric they like to use its easier than fringing yarn

I went to GON and I recently went to Marksville, and there was a grass dancer there who, before the song started, would touch the ground with his black and white fan. I have seen just about everything, or thought I had, until i saw this and some of the people I was sitting with were kind of "offended" that he would allow his feathers to touch the ground in that fashion. On the other hand, my daughters(all teenagers) thought it was the coolest thing and replied that it was just "his style". Whereas the guy that won first, Daryl Goodwill, just danced and did not do anything in that fashion.
What do you all think, who know more about grass dancing than I would?

This young man was not a veteran, but I believe he is a sun dancer. Is that part of the sun dance or something?

Some grass dancers are using flat fringe also along with some of the wide ribbon u know the 2" and 3" stuff, still like the thin ribbon and yarn myself.

I used ribbon and didn't really like it... I had to use twice or three times more ribbon to get a full look and it weight a little to much for my liking..... And with attaching the way I did it made my outfit lay to straight there wasn't a good flow.... yarn may be harder to take care of but it looks hella good. I've went with yarn as the base cover and ribbon for accent strips....

My opinion

I think rags or whateva look aight, they just don't move like yarn, flat fringe and shawl fringe don't move either...good ole yarn looks best fo sho! ribbon lol are you kiddin me fa reels?don't even get me started, lil bit of ribbon is aight but the whole thing looks wack, trust me. This rag thing ain't all that..but if ya chick is makin your outfit they like to show off there applique seems like there is a lot more attention paid to appliqueing the hell outta your outfit nowadays... now that has really taken off as a fad... and just cuz ya cut up your old pee stained bed sheets don't make ya old style...back in tha day peeps did with what they had cuz that is all they had things like horse hair, material, buckskin etc blah blah blah...anyways, if we do with what we have today, is that not old style too...cuz we are jus doin what our grandparents did

Talking Thanks for the Info

Thanks for all the info about the latest grass. I also like the way that yarn moves, it just flows right if you are a good dancer. I also like all of the ribbon work on the capes and aprons.
