Lumbees receive the gourd dance

I just got back from a powwow. While sitting at the drum I was informed the Lumbee tribe was given the rights to do the gourd dance during their annual celebration last week.

Does anybody know the details?

This bring up an excellant point
Who does have the "rights" to grant this
KGC?
KTS?
OTP?

Is it something that would be normally done during the "Annual" which is not till July...

Let me start by saying I know VERY LITTLE about Gourd Dancing...

I think "given the rights" is a stretch... I was there... From what I understand, my bro - Brock - has inquired with some folks about gourd dancing over the past year. He has traveled with Otter Trail and these guys have taken him on as a brother. He did so in a humble way to understand the dance and the songs better for himself. After learning about it, he wanted to bring that to his home in an appropriate way...

Just facts from what I know and what I have heard from the people involved in this... Don't shoot the messenger...

Even though Larry McCurtain is part Kiowa, it's not his place, right, or authority to give away the Kiowa gourd dance. This tribe or group should have approached the Kiowa elders and properly asked for this right. Don't the lumbees have their own ceremonies or dances to do, without "borrowing" from another tribe?
