Does anyone know anything about the Kiowa Black War Shield Society? Is it a traditional group and what does it have to do with the gourd dance? I've noticed nonKiowas claim membership, especially when it comes to their right to gourd dance. There's a Kiowa BlackLeggings Warrior Society, but it has nothing to do with the gourd dance. I've been to several Kiowa functions and have never heard them mention it. Is it some sort of secret society?

I'm not Kiowa I have just ran around with them mst of my life and I have never heard of them and do not believe they are a true Kiowa society. Within Kiowa culture the gourd dance is not a warriors only thang and there is only 3 main groups/clans/societies/etc and that aint one of them. As you said might be something super secret or maybe a new group trying to get recognized...who knows!!!

Why would an so called "Enrolled Delaware" go to a Cheyenne in New Mexico to form a Gourd Society in Arkansas that has some kind ties with a "Unkown" Kiowa society and call it Cherokee Intertribal Gourd Society?

I was a dance in Tulsa 2 years ago on Veteran's Day with these Redstar/Bluestar Dance group it was painful to watch them and even worse to listen to there off beat gourd shaking
