The Blanket

I attended a pow wow in the southern part of Texas. During the gourd session there was a man wearing a BIG calvary looking hat and wearing a blanket (robe?) just filled with what looked like patches,buttons,pins,ribbons(?), etc.... So many, I looked behind him to see if someone was carrying a second one for him for the rest.

What do you guys wear on the blanket? And do you call it a blanket or robe? I was sitting too far away to really see and then forgot about it until reading these threads.

I wear my ribbons (awards), my Reg'tal unit pin. I do have 2 unit patches on the nape of my blanket. That is all.

The Gourd Blanket is worn over the shoulders and hangs down in front
Some wear there ribbons and awards, some not

A robe usually has sleeves and hangs to there feet
But never seen anyone wear one of those to gourd dance with
