Why?

Why do you like to Gourd Dance? What is it about the dance that you enjoy the most and prefer over other styles?

TWDBear has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I dance Gourd because i was invited to.

Plus i can get ready for it, in like 15 min. (unlike Striaght, which takes me about a hour).

Frankly, i enjoy dancing Gourd the most (even more than Straight) because of the songs, and feeling.

Why gourd dance

For me, gourd dancing is a time of remembering. It takes me back to the very old times and so I dance to maintain the traditions of our people. It also takes me back to the War and so I dance in memory of my brothers who did not make it back. I put in 3 tours during the war in the Nam and had my jump boots spit on in San Francisco. Tahe only time anyone said "welcome home" was when I left the dance circle. Aho.

Talking

I love everything there is about gourd dancing. The dancers, the music, and all those gourds being rattled about. Man, it's a good feeling listening to all those songs...thinking about the warrior's a long time ago going off to battle the enemy and the adrenaline running through them...the thundering sound of their stampeding horses racing across the lands...it's great being Kiowa! Unfortunately, in my area there aren't too many gourd dances, but when one is put on then I'm definitely going to be there!

It's where I go to pray and give thanks to those that made
the sacrifice by answering the call of duty.

Why Gourd Dance

Well said, Billy Tow Hawks. As we dance to honor the traditions and those who have established them, let us remember that - in peace or war - we are living the traditions that will be passed on to those who come after us.

I AM A STRAIGHT DANCER. I WILL AT TIMES WEAR MY STRAIGHT DANCE SUIT WHILE I AM GOURD DANCING IF AT A POWWOW.
I USUALLY WON'T WEAR MY SUIT IF IM AT A GOURD DANCE (NOT A POWWOW).

I WAS INVITED INTO THE DANCE WHILE I WAS ON ACTIVE DUTY. I CAN HONOR MY FAMILY THAT AREN'T ABLE TO DANCE ANYLONGER. I CAN ALSO HONOR THOSE THAT FELL FOR ME.

THESE THINGS I TAKE SERIOUS AND TRY TO MAINTAIN THE PROTOCOL I WAS TAUGHT.
