Question Gourd Dancing Styles

Gourd dancing styles vary from individual to individual.

Some men dance very dignified and respectful.

Some barely move except for their gourds.

Some "follow the leader" in a syncronized line.

Some dance close to the drum and shake their gourd like they are gonna bless the drum with their gourd.

Some jump as they dance.

Some couldn't keep time with their gourds if their life depended on it.

Some look like they are afraid and look around to see what others are doing.

Some shake their heads like they have a Fancy Dance Rocker on.

Some look like they are stalking the drum and dance in a zig-zag.

Some get the hibidy-jibidys and shake all their body parts.

Some dance so crazy that it makes your eyes roll backward. *L

How do you dance?
How do the majority of dancers dance in your area?

How about the ones that bless everyone with their turkey wing fan and their softball size Gourd?

I like to find a real stoic one and dance next to them. Try to talk to them during the dances or at least I mean between the songs.

Some cross their gourd and fan in front of them and look like they're trying to ward off a Vampire.

Some jump side ways left and then right, then jump completely around in a circle.

Some just lift their heels up in time to the beat.

We sure get a kick out of watching all the antics of the Gourd dancers when we go to the Gathering.

From the responses so far, there are several "unusual" ways that individuals gourd dance.

Is there a right way and wrong way to gourd dance?

I know, huh? I seen some gourd dancers who think they are fancy dancing. LOL.. I try to dance in a dignified and respectful way. I do my best to dance along with the drum beat. Sometimes though, when a certain song that I like is sang, I can get a little..... overcome with excitement. When I hear the bugle down in Carnegie, makes me want to go out on a raiding party..lol.
To answer your second question, you only have to look at your first statement. Dancing styles vary from individual to individual. At least, that is what my experience has been...Thanks...

Some stand on the outer part of the circle and never move just facing the drum
some move out into the circle and slowly move around

Me I like using the whole arena, move around
Talk and shake hands

and dance
