Ah! Thanks! I get it now.
I think that would be an admirable action, Cherosage.

Thanks, PB, that is what we do. We have short sessions of Gourd dance before each Inter-Tribal and on Sat. afternoon we have a longer session from about 1:00-4:00 PM. We break for dinner that we serve for all of the participants then we have another short session prior to the Grand Entry. On Sun. we have another short final session.
Thanks, Zotigh, I just wanted to make sure this didn't offend nor was improper. Of course, I will leave this final decision to the Headsinger if he is comfortable with it. I just want everyone to understand that I'm not trying to make this into a ceremonial.

CherO: There are powwows much like yours where there are gourd dances are held prior to the grand entry and drums ARE set up on the side (as opposed to the middle of the dance arena). This may be due to several factors: Where the host southern drum is already assigned a spot on the side, the intense heat, head singers preference for setting up, etc. I have sang gourd dance on the side in powwows in Texas, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming. So in answer to everybodys question. . . yes, it is done in today's powwows.
