Head LADY gourd dancer?

I just wanted to know if anyone ever heard of a head LADY gourd dancer?:34:.... I came across this awhile ago, but everyone I asked have no idea. :thinking

I was wondering the same thing!!

I came across a flyer for a powwow on my Res...had a "head LADY gourd dancer" listed.

...I thought...."What the hell are the Navajo's doing now!!!"

I've also seen the same thing on Flyers for powwows in the New England area.

Well, surprisingly, I've seen Comanches doing that for a while.

For the Kiowas, there's no such animal.

I've seen HLGD on fliers too. I would guess that it is a HLD for the gourd dance session and another woman as HLD for the evening portion. I don't think it is a woman serving as HGD. Not around here anyways.

There are now head little boy and girl, head teens, head grass dancers, head traditional dancers, head fancy dancers and head male and female veterans.

Yes, the head women gourd dancer phenomenon is reaching into gourd dance country. I have seen Head Women Gourd Dancers in C&A, Sac&Fox and Kickapoo country.

I agree you only need your basic head staff. Not everybody need to be a head this or a head that. I can be the Head NDN Taco eater!!!!

Yea.. i can see how a HLGD would be cool, esp to those who have no idea how to conduct themselves at a gourd dance.. but it was just wierd to me.
Actually my fam is holding a Memorial Gourd Dance for my cousin who past away and my g-ma brought that up. She knows some lady ... i dunno *shrug*... but im not one to tell my g-ma no.. so yea, we're having a HLGD there... thats prob what ya saw Rumaki. Anyhoo, I'll let ya know what she does.. cuz i have nooooooo idea.
