On pewter casting tomahawk blades

One of my many projects is casting a pipe-tomahawk head of pewter/lead and wonder if any of you can tell me how to do it. There is a great example in Salish Indian Art, and such tomahawks with cast blades must have been quite popular among the Plateau dancers at the end of the 19th century, at least they look pretty stylish!!

here's some great information (collected from various newsgroup exchanges) on casting pewter ... as far as metal casting goes, it's about the easiest metal to work with (the pewter made today doesnt contain lead) as it melts at a really low temperature.
