Post Quilled "bulls tail" hair ornament construction

Can any body tell me how a quilled "bulls tail" hair ornament is constructed. I haw seen some pictures of them but I don't know how it's done.

Is the quill work wrapped on rawhide slats then attached to the horse or bulls tail or is the quill work actually done on the tail? Is the technique used wrapped or quill embroidery(sp). I am interested in making one of these the right way and not slapping it together. Thank you

The quillwork is done with the wrap technique on rawhide slats. A portion of the tail is attached to the quillwork.

Before constructing a wapegnaka, look at many examples. Examine the various ways the maker attached the quillwork to the tail. Don't be in too big of a hurry.

If you haven't done quillwork before, do some rawhide strips for practice. You can always attach these strips to feathers, so it's not a waste of time and material.

Good luck!

I dont know much about these, but I think they also have a spiritual significance. You might want to find that out also, before you wear one on the dance floor.
