We have encountered birds on the side of the road that have been hit by vehicles (road pizza) from time to time. We recently found a blue huron but it was too damaged to use the feathers. What is the best way of removing feathers from the bird? We have had suggestions, but they have not worked. At our cultural center, the only suggestion was to boil the bird, that did not seem right, suggestions?

My relatives told how to pluck chickens and wild ducks . You use boiling water - but they called it scalding the bird. Dip the bird in and out of the boiling pot in the process of plucking. That was how it was told to me. hope it helps.

clip the whole wing .tail take them home cut the skin in between each feather so you only have a little skin on each feather scrape what you can of that off depending on how fresh they are then just boil the rest on the end of the feather to get the rest off

an easier way is to cut the skin following the quill...follow the quill down to the skin, then where the skin starts, cut the skin on top of the quill with a scalpel the rest of the way down to the bottom of the quill. then pull towards you and out.
