get 2 bandanas and some ribbon.
cut a whole in the middle of 1 bandana and that is the yoke. cut the other bandana in half diagonal and those are the aprons. add ribbon on the borders. with some creativity they can look pretty cool. i made a few.

I make simple fast ones all the time.
For the aprons, cut 4 rectangles (2 will just be the lining and can be any material). Width will be 1/2 of kids waist measurement plus a couple inches. Length will be kids measurement from waist to knee plus a couple inches. Fold all pieces in half (together) and cut the corners off the bottom so you end up with U shaped pieces. Wrap and wrap yarn around something (I use my 6 inch clear ruler, but cardboard works great), and slide off in big sections. Just starting with one color is easiest. Now take one U shape (have it's U shaped lining ready) and place the yarn on top with one edge of the loops lining up with the raw edge of the fabric. It doesn't have to be perfect. Spread it along the edge and this doesn't have to be perfect either. Just make sure the loops are at the edge of the fabric or beyond. When you get the yarn how you want it (this is where you would add in other colors or whatever), cover it with the U shaped lining and pin in place. Sew together with a generous seam allowance, maybe 1 inch. Turn right side out....trim yarn ends...TA DUH!! Now fold the top edge over and stitch leaving a casing of about an inch for a belt or elastic or some sort of tie. Repeat for the other apron. For the cape, you can use the same technique, just cutting 2 LONG ovals (one will be the lining). Place the yarn as before and sew the lining over the whole thing as before. Now make a small slash in the middle of the lining and turn right side out. Trim yarn. You may have to make a pattern for the head opening. I usually use paper and cut an oval and see if it fits over the kids head. If not, adjust it. If too big start over. Then use the pattern and trace it on either the lining or the outside fabric, making sure it's in the exact center. Pin the layers together before you cut. Either bind the neck edge with bias tape, or fold it over about 1/2 inch and sew, or just zig zag the edge. You can just use a ribbon shirt for the top. After you're first one, you can probably see how you want to modify it...the amount or colors of yarn, shape of the cape, etc... If you get ambitious, you can cut off a pair of old (or new) sweats (or MAKE a quick pair of short pants with an elastic waist) to wear underneath. Sew a line of yarn down the outer side and around the bottom where it's cut off. Good luck!
