beaded cuff bracelet

Does anyone know what is used as the backbone of the bracelet that the loomed beadwork and leather are attached too? Is it a thin sheet of soft metal that is bent into a cuff shape? And where would you buy this from? Like a Home Depot or Lowe's store?

Try Rings-n-Things or Fire Mountain Gems. They are called bracelet blanks.

Fire Mountain also sells a tool for bending the blanks into a nice even curve for a bracelet.

You can buy sheet copper at Hobby Lobby ... even some hardware stores carry it. Copper is easy to bend once cut. Use tin snips and a file to cut it and take off burs. Then bend it around a baseball bat to form it to a bracellet shape. Cover it with leather and sew your beadwork down.

Hope that helps

Yes I am old timey...LOL

Thanks powwowbum. That really helps alot. There isn't a Hobby Lobby near me, but there is Michael's Craft Store, sort of the same like Hobby Lobby. Hopefully I can find some copper sheets there, if not then I'll have to check out those hardware stores. I'm just curious what are tin snips and would I be able to buy these at a craft store? And also what kind of file would I use? Like a nail file... Thanks.

dayz

Tin snips are like really heavy duty scissors/shears. You will have to get the tin snips at the hardware store...maybe walmart but not sure on that.

As to the file...Oh my gawd your girly, LOL...you will need a fine-medium single cut baztard file (yes that really is its name) and not a nail file. A nail file isnt even a true file...it's really nothing more than a piece of foamboard with sandpaper glued to each side of it.

Not sure if Michaels will have sheet copper, but if not just ask around the hardware stores or your male relatives I am sure you can find where to buy it. Hobby Lobby has it in their model train supplies.

Good Luck

Hobby stores often carry 1" to 1.5" wide 20ga or 18ga brass strips for model work. While more expensive than sheet, they need little cutting and finishing.

Also many larger craft stores carry Al strips for making bracelets. They generally hang out near those "wonderful" little wire bead looms.
