Fertility Gourd? Yikes
Greetings all,
I purchased a beautiful gourd at a craft fair. Someone told me recently that the images are for fertility. Well my family is complete and I am getting too old to take any chances. I thought I would ask if anyone is familar with the imagery. I bought it because it reminded me of a dream I had many years ago. It looks like an eagle on one side and Kokopeli and a woman on the other side. Maybe it is looking for a new home. sincerely, annie |

Thanks
Hi Creewoman and Bahnisiain,
Thanks for the replys. I don't remember how much I paid for it. I told you I was old. No not really I just feel old. I was two busy trying to keep up with my kids to ask any questions about it at the time. I couldn't have paid two much because I never have too much money. Now that I think about it the nice young man who sold it to me probably gave me a break seeing as I bought some cd's. Maybe he thought it was funny I picked it out. AS much as I love the gourd I have recently gained a new respect for things that I always thought were just stories or myths. Anyway thanks again, annie |

Some of the ancient kokopelli images on rock art depict a man playing a flute with an erection. More recent renderings of the figure omit that part (for obvious reasons). This is probably what the person was associating with fertility. I don't belong to the tribe(s) that uses this motif, so I can't tell you if it has the same fertility connotation without the phallic element.
