Indian horse markings
There is a halloween parade coming up, since I have theatre rehearsals on halloween night I always go all out for the parade (the weekend before.) This halloween I decided my horse and I would be Indians, obviously she will be my Indian horse. She is a 27 year old breeding stock paint and already has very interesting markings, I will just touch her up with spots and some white colour in her mane. I do not have fancy tack, I recently found out that due to her disease she is not currently rideable. I was going to do a simplistic Arabian cable halter with running beads and feathers in her hair. If I had more time I would bead a pretty halter, but I think the parade is in 2 weeks.
What markings are traditional on a horse? I dont know if its traditional for one horse to have one partner, but she is definentely *my* horse. What markings would I use as well? Is there a special pattern to putting feathers in her hair? In mine? I am under 18 and not in a relationship if that makes a difference. (I know in Mexican culture it makes a difference.) Thank you for your help, if you need pictures of her or us both together I can provide them =) |

I think it's pretty cool for you to dress up as an Indian for Halloween! I'm dressing up too! I'm gonna be a white businessman with a blonde wig and blue contacts. Then I'm gonna put on an Izod shirt and Docker pants. Plus, I'm gonna have a briefcase with fake dollars in it. I hope this is appropriate.
Ummmmm...I can't help you on the Indian horse traditional stuff. Maybe somebody else can answer your questions.

I agree with Joes'Dad...Holloween is not the time to get dressed up as an Indian. Marks on a horse are earned or need to be understood and respected to be place on him/her.Do something else for the season.... |

Thank you for your help =) I respect that markings need to be earned. I will be up in chumash territory and afterwards they have a street market with a bunch of things for sale, so I will respect them as well. Unfournately I do not have any other ideas, the lady who will be going with me wanted to be an Indian as well.

I can see that you are tring to go about this in a nice way . But this will not be recieved well on a native website. I warn you now it wont be pretty , and you will have no problem understanding what The People have to say. Either try harder ,pick a real theme, or move on.

I can see that I am not being received well, I did not mean to offend anyone, I am sorry.
I will "move on" but if anybody has any ideas of a new theme I can do for my mare and I that would be helpful. I have a bazillion chicken feathers saved up, green & brown beads and a interesting coloured paint mare, (shes chesnut with white spider web markings on her back.) I am going to wal-mart next week so I can pick up new supplies there, but I need some quick and easy. |

My riding groups attire at parades IS cowgirl. Well as much as I can considering I do it all in an english saddle. But basically I have been doing that for far too many years. Last year I was a pirate (mare is blind in one eye so it was perfect for a patch.)

I always like the fairy tale theme when it came to dress up, including the horses, and the horse was draped in pretty fabricks. I also saw a horse that was in a halloween parade that had a fall theme, her blanket had pumkins, and squash, and in her mane she had lil arangements of fall leaves, with bright orange and yellow. She had a straw hat on with a hatband from teh same material her blanket was made of.

yaknow ive seen that and it was soo cool the took the paper that is inside of wrapping paper "the cone part" and lightly twisted it and made a horn, it fit alot like a party hat only a horn, then they got a couple yerds of different tule sp? sorry lol and draped it around the horse and it was real neet.

Thank you EaglePlumes! (or is it a z?) I thought about it for a minute, while I think my pony would enjoy it more my [horse] mare would look great as a fairytale horse =) I already have the necessary clothes and I could just decorate a halter and get yellow roses for her.
