opinions on shawls
Now I know I may be asking for trouble, but I need an opinion on making my next shawl. I already have a (red) pendleton shawl and a ribbon fringe shawl, but I need to know what to use with my new white buckskin dress I'm finishing. The beadwork is white, colbalt blue, and silver with stars. Any suggestions??

there are so many kinds of fabrics now that you can get one with "ready made" with sparkles. Then add some beadwork, but only enough to highlight your shawl otherwise you will end up with a heavy shawl. Or you can even use fabric paints to offset some of the beads.

I would suggest a cobalt blue shawl with white fringe (I just love white fringe on a darker fabric) with silver appliqued designs.
And I don't suggest beading a shawl. I guess you could, but I've never seen one personally. I have seen pony beads in the fringe and that looks kinda cool.

I agree, the cobalt blue would look really nice. I like the darker colors, my buckskin has a white background also. I have a beautiful white shawl that looked really nice with my regalia for about 2 pow-wows, and one of those powwows was Denver March (inside). Anyway it got sooooo dirty, so fast, I was shocked. I really hardly ever use it anymore. It looked so grungy, I was embarrased to use it. I had it drycleaned and haven't used it in awhile. I made a dark green one and a burgandy one. The seem to stay cleaner especially outside. Somethings to consider, I guess.

I hear ya.. I have an ivory colored one. I've been pretty good with it though and only had to have it dry cleaned once .. but I'm wishing I had made a red one instead.
What I was thinking though.. if you want a light colored shawl with blue fringe, maybe use that white moleskin.. it spot cleans pretty good from what I remember... or if you do a blue shawl.. use the white microdot for the design! I would'nt do a full shawl out of microdot if you are just carrying it over your arm... waste of time and money, and the fringe would get caught all up in it ...just a pain in the butt.

it's that sequined material you see everywhere... I don't know where I got the name microdot from.. I think it was printed at the end of a bolt and that's why... but here's a link to some of it.. bad pic though
