loose feather / drop fans
just wondering how do you roll the buckskin for the fringe on the fans, and how do you cut the feathers that are at the base of the larger feathers?

ok there are more qualified people than myself to answer this..but until they get here... why not try lookingin the archives and see if you can find the other discussions we've had on this. We had some really good lenghty and informative ones.

sorry ... been napping
Black tail ... how are you going to lay the thing out. I know it is going to be loose, but are you going to lay it out round, stacked or flat? depending on how you lay the fan out will tell how the back will look.
Now as too rolling fringe...you cut a strip of hide slightly less than 1/4" and then you split that in half (up it's length) but leave a 3/8" bit at one end that is (uncut) still connected. Oh yeah be sure to cut in the direction of the most stretch of the hide. At this point you gab the 2 ends of the split piece of fringe and then twist them in opposite direction until the strip starts to kink up. Then gab the 3/8" tab in you teeth and bring the 2 ends together now let go of the tab and it will twist up all on it's own. You can tighten it up some by twisting that up tighter and stretching it as you go. Now, as for the florettes, all you use is the tip. About the last 1/2" worth of the feather. It usually takes several of them to cover well. If this is unclear or you have other questions feel free to ask away.

Thats kool about the florettes, but do ya just glue em and leave it at that? I'm one of them dingy ones that needs thing broken down into VERY intricate detail from beginning to end...LOL...i'm just stumped about how folks get ALL them feathers into that lil teenie handle...
...dont mind me its late and i'm rambling...

well, it's going to be layed out round. another words one macaw feather in the center, and the rest stacked around it. just the last 1/2? what happens with the rest of the feather? isn't that wasting it? one other question. how do you attach the feathers to the handle? i've heard about this gun cleaner thing. how does that work? i also found a pic where it looks as though the feathers are stuck right into the handle itself. i can't post a link, the pic i have is too large. sorry.
