Ugh, ok ladies got a question? Are you ever too old or too fat to fancy shawl? I mean I'm not mad skilled and blessed like the greats, : Lisa, Irene, Grace to name a few legends. I haven't shawled seriously in like 8 years, had knee surgery this past fall and want to get back into the pow-wow scene next spring but I gotta tell you, at this point I would have to enter the "lay down and roll my fat out of shape butt around the arena" catagory!
I am starting to get back into running but man! I watch pow-wows now and these little young hyper things that seems to just be hyped up on a case of Red Bull exhaust me watching them.
Maybe I should switch to something else, like being a spectator! LoL

Im not a shawler ut I say go for it! if its truely what you want to do ,do it. Size in my opp shoudnt matter, ive seen bigger ladies jam and they were out of this world good.

It's been about 10 or 12 years since I last danced fancy shawl and to tell you the truth I miss it...got the opportunity to get back into it for a local dance troop and just the one song wasn't enough...I was asking for a crowhop next...lol...and I knew I could rock it...it's convinced me to get more in shape...maybe I'll be back out there...someday...

I know I miss and I want to get back out there. My kids are going to start dancing this spring and I know how much I will want to be out there dancing with them. But Im afraid even if my feet stop with the drum my belly and boobs will keep going! LoL

I know exactly how you feel... I asked myself the same question last January. It had been almost 10 years since I had seriously danced, my daughters were just learning themselves and I couldn't even dance a complete fancy dance song!!! But, I started slow... practicing a few minutes at first and then working up to a song while teaching my girls foot work. After 9 months, I've lost 45 lbs!!! (Fancy is a great cardio workout!!!)
In October I had a chance to dance again and it felt great to be out there "doing what I loved to do". I was exhausted after 4 songs but it was GREAT! I can't wait to see how many I can do the next time I get to dance.
Remember, dancing is about what's in your heart and soul. It's your way of worshiping and honoring the Creator... only you can know how to do that best :) If you feel lead to do it... listen to your heart.

Thats awesome. I am trying to get back in shape not just for dancing but also cause I may have to go through BLET and that could kill me if I don't get in better shape!! I jogged for @ 1 1/2 hour yesterday then did a burnout routine with kickboxing. My knee is a bit bothersome today but I am hoping thats it will get better if I keep working out.

And if I lose wieght, I lose some boob right? So Maybe I won't need as big a roll of duct tape! LoL

Well all I can say is go slow and build up to it. It WILL get easier and if you get tired of the running and kickboxing.... pull out some old fancy dance songs that will get your heart pumpin' LOL Best of luck

@duct tape..or invest in a good sports bra...yeh keep workin at it...its always a struggle but the more in shape u are..the better u will feel out there..

Honey Please!! I wear at least 2 bras when I dance sometimes 3. I am sorry but there ain't nothing worse than just seeing a womans boobs just bouncing all over, hitting her in the face giving her a nose bleed! It's just wrong. I mean sometimes its like her boobs need their own contest number! I will NOT be the Dancing Boobs Woman!
