Question Which is the best visual to learn woman's fancy? Video or just going to the Pow Wow?

I am curious to know. I need your opinion and a feedback from you. I was told from two of my Native friends (late Kwan Bennett from Thunderbird Dancers and Miss Rosie) that is best to go to the Pow Wow and see what they are doing, and to have somebody to teach you to do it correctly. Please reply. Thank you.

Normally this answer would be very easy - go to pow wows and watch and talk with other shawl dancers. But, since you live in New Jersey, unless you want to travel several states away, I would have to say that video would probably be a good alternative.

Singerdad, there are several Pow Wows in New York City (Brooklyn, Staten Island & Queens), therefore I am going to take your advice: talk to other shawl dancers. I usually go by bus and subway (it depends how many and where in NY I need to go). If I go see Thunderbird Dancers perform in Manhattan, then I will heopfully get a chance to talk to them. Thanks.

I wish I knew more about this type of dancing. The best I can suggest is to go to pow wows and talk to the dancers. As you get to know some of them, maybe they can help you away from the pow wow to work on the techniques of the dance.

I wish you success

Maybe just ask some friends for videos from other powwows. It is good to watch and admire, but only practice and time will improve your dancing. Kinda like riding a bike, you can watch someone to see how they do it, and then you will fiqure out how to ride it yourself, but it takes time and practice to get real good at it.
