Which is cooler Eagle Bustles or Hackle Bustles?
Over the years hackle and eagle bustles have been used. I was curious as to what different bustles people liked on here. If you have been around pow-wows long enough someone might remember the old fluffy bustles..........

I would have to say Hackle Bustles... probably because you can make em all kinda cool colors!!!
:24: But I remember when Rick Cleveland had those cool eagle bustles made out of black and whites. They were pretty nice looking!! ![]() |

Those black and whites of Rick Cleveland's were cool.
Hackle bustles have come a long way in the last 7 to 8 years in terms of how elaborate looking they are. I must say though, I would choose a pair of eagle bustles like Jerry Cleveland's or Tommy Snowball's any day. Whoever makes their bustles does an awesome job.

For fancy dancers especially I think Hackle Bustles are way better. Eagle bustles are too traditional looking for a dance that is fairly new compaired to most dances that use an array of eagle feathers... Not to mention younger people usually dance fancy seeing that they are more athletic.
Fancy I think should catch eyes. Color cuts it. - Robby

I love those Eagle bustles they really can move and look cool. If you know how to dance them. Darral Wildcat had some nice bustles. Michael Roberts had a nice set too and so did Dwight Whitebuffalo..........
But the hackle bustles go back to the style of the original fancy dance bustles. It is really hard to say for me.

my opinion
Boozhoo niji,
I think comparing the two of these is sorta like comparing chopper motorcycles and hot rods. You like two wheels or four? There is a lot of time involved in making a set of hackle bustles, I would say a lot more than in a set of eagle bustles, what with all the feather work you have to do. But I think dancers that have a set of eagles command a whole lot of respect. Aside from going out and collecting the spikes, or trading for them, I had always been taught that eagle spikes are earned. In my eyes someone that has 72 or so spikes must have done a good number of things for some people to gift him those spikes. I myself have a couple, they were given to me, and I had to go a long way to get them. I would say that the hackles are more colorful, and more than likely more eye catching to the judges, especially at night. But there again the judges might look for something else. Derek |
